Chris Widmayer is the Co-Founder & CEO of Penrod, a consulting company that delivers innovative solutions to clients using Salesforce software. Chris and his co-founder started Penrod working together on Skype while watching shows like Friday Night Lights and the Jersey Shore. The business has grown dramatically and now employs more than 60 people in 3 states. Recently, Chris bought out his co-founder and is now Penrod’s sole owner.
Chris became interested in computer programming and in the social aspects of the internet at a young age. He also became an entrepreneur early as well, developing a highly rated professional wrestling website while in high school. He worked as well at a restaurant run by his friend’s family and credits that experience with giving him a great work ethic and the understanding that the best jobs are fun jobs. He describes college as the time he used for networking and growing up. As a resident hall advisor, Chris learned the responsibility that comes with keeping 70 fellow students safe. After college, Chris was involved in several startups, became an adjunct professor and worked in the corporate world as a systems analyst and software developer for Kohl’s Corporation before starting Penrod.
Mike and Chris cover a ton of great stuff in this episode, including how he and his company have a culture that is 100% unapologetic about who they are, why he likes to dabble on Twitter, his thinking about accountability, rather than control, what it’s like to have a business that is partnered with a single client and how he is hyper focused on different verticals to grow his business. You’re in for a treat with Mike’s conversation with Chris, a dynamic, open and driving force of an entrepreneur.
