Hey everybody, Welcome back to this free Thinking Friday episode of the how to Happen Podcast. I am Mike and I thank you so much for joining me today. As you know, on Fridays I try to share with you something short, something actionable, something that I have either heard about or have been told, or have found and discovered on my own that interests me and I think will interest you as well At least that’s always my hope. I figure if you and I are on the same page on things, if something interests me, it’ll probably interest you, and vice versa. So today I’m going to share with you something that I got in an email from a gentleman named Joe Polish, P-O-L-I-S-H. Joe has been someone that I’ve quoted and talked about on the podcast before. He runs a program called Genius Network that I actually haven’t been to yet but I was supposed to go over. In December I was supposed to go to the Genius Network event in Arizona. Unfortunately I had a family emergency that kept me from going there. But I do intend to go there next year and check it out for myself.

But I’ve been aware of Joe’s work for a long time through Strategic Coach and through Abundance360 and some of the other groups that I’ve been associated with and that would be worth you checking out as well. So here’s something he sent. He sends a lot of information about ethics in business, and you and I have talked about ethics, We’ve talked about character, We’ve talked about other things, and there’s sort of a trickiness to all of that stuff. Sometimes it’s like a lot of things in life. It’s easy to say and it’s maybe a little bit difficult to do, especially situationally, for a lot of reasons, some legitimate and oftentimes others not so legitimate. So this is the message that Joe sent.

It says, Mike, in the realm of business, distinguishing between bad behavior and inherent badness is crucial. We all navigate moments where our actions might not align with our true character, and you and I have talked about that many times on the podcast. It’s a journey of aligning our value system with who we aspire to be. Joe says that a recent event. I asked a crowd about what they care for. Was it their families? Was it their health, their business, their clients? And everyone’s hands shot up. But here’s the catch. He says caring and committing are worlds apart, and you and I talk about commitment all the time. It’s a big, important word.

Anyway, Joe goes on to say real success in business isn’t about being the loudest in the room or the one who’s always pitching. It’s about positioning and how you present yourself. He says I’ve moved away from pitching on stage, focusing instead on sharing the genuine benefits of what I offer. Joe says this approach has not only brought me more success, but also aligns better with my ethos not to be offensive or forceful, but instead to be authentic and valuable. And consider this. He says true generosity in business isn’t about expecting something in return, and I think that applies to life as well. He says I’ve contributed significantly to people without any expectation, none, simply because they’re doing good in the world. And that’s the essence of ethical business contributing without leveraging it for personal gain or recognition.

Lastly, Joe says personal reflection is key. We often need to confront ourselves Making moments where we might be driving people away. It’s about being the person you’d eagerly answer a call from the phone rings, you’re like accept, and not the one that people dread. When the phone rings, you’re like decline. So ask yourself how do others perceive your approach? Are you genuinely adding value or are you just seeking to take? He ends by saying remember, in business as in life, it’s your ethics and character that define your true success, and I am a total agreement with that, although I do think it can be very, very difficult. So you have to get super grounded in what your ethics are and who your character is, and once you have both of those, you are unstoppable and you are able to pursue and maximize the greatness that I know is inside of you, so I hope you found value in this today.

Joe, Thank you for that message. It’s a pleasure for me to share it with all of you, and keep in mind that I do this to connect with you.
