Mark Shapiro is the President and CEO of the Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee. Mark attended Indiana University before exploring a career in restaurant management with Ed Debevic’s where a chance encounter with a couple of entrepreneurs he was serving led him to become a freight broker, moving truckload shipments of fruit throughout the United States. Later, Mark and his partner would end up owning the company.
After selling his shares back to his partner several years later, Mark saw an opportunity to get back into summer camp, something he’d loved doing as a kid. He took a management position at Camp Chi where he stayed for the next 10 years before moving to the Milwaukee JCC, first as the associate executive director and into his current CEO role in 2008.
