Scott Lurie is the Founder & President of F Street Group , an investment company that includes a number of industry vertical investments, including real estate, hospitality, lending, and emerging markets. After graduating from George Washington University, Scott returned home to Milwaukee in 2004 and began investing in real estate. Since then, he’s created many investment-specific portfolios using the “F Street” brand, including Development, Hospitality, and Investments. Scott has been the driving force behind acquiring the initial real estate assets and continues to look for new investments that meet his stringent criteria, while focusing on helping to improve the communities where he invests.
After deciding that working in the family business wasn’t for him, Scott saw an advertisement for We Buy Ugly Houses and immediately applied for, and got, a franchise, even though he’d never bought any real estate. He turned that experience into his real estate MBA school, and he’s been leveraging that education ever since.
Mike and Scott cover a ton of great stuff in this episode, including how he got a taste for earning money parking cars during Milwaukee’s Summerfest music event & selling t-shirts outside Chicago’s Soldier Field, the lessons he learned about business (and speed) from his “buy phone,” why it’s important for him to surround himself with the “best” partners, what his dress “uniform” does for him, the notoriety of what being in such a public business carries along with it, and how he’s created a culture that focuses on every day being a success day.
And now here’s Scott Lurie.
